Over 60% of drivers amongst us admit that they name their car, with 75% naming their first car that they owned. Some of us drivers are convinced that naming our cars encourages us to be better drivers, which could decrease the amount we pay for insurance!

Celebrities that have been known to name their motor include:

Barack Obama – ‘The Beast’

Beyonce – ‘Honeybee’

Sebastian Vettel – ‘Kate’s Dirty Sister’ (a Royal reference perhaps?)

It seems we have both a physical and an emotional attachment with our cars – with 1 in 3 have been known to have conversations with them (and I’m not talking about calling the car in front of you a *%$£*# )

How to Name Your Car (if you haven’t already)

The first thing to do is look under the bonnet and find out whether the car is a male or female.

From ‘The Green Mumba’ to ‘Kermit the Frog’ and ‘Yoda,’ most cars are named after their colour and looks! (maybe if its Orange you could call it TOWIE?)

It’s not all about looks, why not name your vehicle after your favourite celebrity?

A special friend or loved one? (Although calling your car Mummy or Daddy, could result in the line ‘would you like a ride home in Mummy,’ potentially rather awkward especially coming from your friends).

Get the family in on the action and have everyone select their favourite name for the car and then enter our COMPETITION

Still Stuck? Here are some great ideas for naming your car and hopefully it has now got a name to go with its personality. However, be warned, if you name your car ‘Nick Clegg’ then don’t be surprised if it is unreliable, constantly disappointing and performs a U-turn quicker than you can say goCarShare!

ENTER OUR COMPETITION

We’ve partnered with the RAC, the car breakdown cover specialists, to bring you the chance to win this great Garmin SatNav. If you have ever named your car then let us know what it’s called and why, or feel free to be inventive and let us know what you are going to call it. Terms and conditions apply, see competition page.

Like our page and enter to be in with a chance of winning!

We really think we have created something that will be of use to you when you travel out of town, it would be great if you gave the site a try; it’s completely free to use at the moment.

Anyway, let us know what you think, we’ve set up a Facebook fan page ‘goCarShare Edinburgh’ where we will have fun competitions and updates – it would be great if you join and share your thoughts (join the fanpage rather than the group – we are in the process of closing down the group).

We’ll be back to Edinburgh soon; hopefully see you then. In the meantime, have a great time in Edinburgh – it’s a very special place.

Much love,

The goCarShare Team.

Ok, I probably shouldn’t say this too loudly, but I got my A-Level results 10 years ago to the day (I know it’s shocking, time really does fly).

I haven’t read the papers today, but I can almost predict what they will be saying ‘An ‘A’ isn’t what it used it B’, ‘exam passes have gone us 12 squillion percent today.’

My two cents are, we are living in a society that is evolving and becoming more advanced, I don’t really see why it is not possible for students who work harder, have improved technology, and maybe even better teaching, to receive better results.

Let’s look at it a different way, the world record for 100 metres running, things are definitely improving there: in 1999 Maurice Green broke the world record and ran it in 9.79 seconds (thank you Wikipedia!), since then Tim Montgomery and Asafa Powell, Justin Gaitlin have all created new world records, Usain Bolt has taken the world record down to 9.58 an improvement of over 2% in over a decade. So if people are improving at running, why shouldn’t they be improving at Chemistry too?

Anyway if you have just got your results, I hope you are happy with them and you get a chance to chill now.

If you are off to university have a read of the http://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/news/item.htm?pid=4567. They’ll kit you out with a few useful tips and I believe one of them may involve the benefit of sharing car journeys.

It really has something for everyone: beautiful Georgian architecture, a buzzing nightlife and even an extinct Volcano in the middle of the city (yes really!).

But something special happens in August, people flock from all over the world to see the weird, the wacky, the camp and the colourful – an arts festival like no other.

This year’s highlights will include Scott Mills performing the ‘Bjorn Identity’, which is basically ‘The Bourne identity’ set to the music of Abba, and ‘an observational Scot’, Daniel Sloss, who is described by The Telegraph as ‘a star in the making’. Then there are established favourites such as Al Murray of ‘The Pub Landlord’ fame, but really half the fun is getting out and discovering things yourself.

If you are going, have a great time. If you are driving up, why not put up a goCarShare request and earn some money so you can treat yourself to some Scottish delicacies; Haggis, fried Mars Bars and Irn Bru anyone?

If you need any help just drop us a line at hello@gocarshare, we are more than happy to assist.

Thanks,

Drummond

PS Maybe see you there, or better still maybe I’ll grab a ride with you up to the festival – just need things to calm down a wee bit!
